Sinopoli Verdi Requiem 2001

For all the Giuseppe Sinopoli admirers I'm uploading what was actually his final recording, Verdi's Messa di Requiem (not Ariadne auf Naxos; that was his final studio recording).

The Requiem was recorded in Dresden about two months before his death. The concerts were given in memory of the victims of the Dresden firebombings at the end of World War II and the recording, issued by the Staatskapelle Dresden, was a fund-raiser for the rebuilding of a church in that city.

I'm not aware of this recording ever having been issued commercially by any label and as far as I know it is no longer available from the Staatskapelle Dresden either. The performances took place on 13 and 14 February 2001 and the soloists are Daniella Dessi, Elisabetta Fiorillo, Johan Botha and Roberto Scandiuzzi.

Hello, in Italy the complete recording was released in 2006 with the magazine "Classical Voice".
IMHO it's an outstanding performance, and an excellent recording.
